Today is a day for cat snuggles, freaky dancing in my boyfriend's empty apartment, and a heavenly double shot mocha in an artsy café. Today is my day off. Since I started my position with L'Arche Portland in August, my weekend days have been Monday and Tuesday. At first I was a little bummed about the idea—no wild Saturday nights for me—but it has actually been a positive experience.
Imagine your favorite café on the weekends. It's hard enough to find a place to sit for you and your company, but keep dreaming if you think you are going to find an open seat next to an outlet. Now imagine it on a weekday afternoon. No line, friendly service, and take your pick of the best seats in the house. It's fantastic.
Or take the supermarket for example. Walk into the grocery store on a Saturday afternoon, and you might think you missed the mayor's address about an impending zombie apocalypse. Walk in on a Monday afternoon, and the staff practically run up to do your grocery shopping for you.
I might be exaggerating a little. There are definitely days when I wish it was more common to party on Sunday nights (aka my "Friday" night), but overall I have enjoyed my "weekends" during the week. I will take a cozy day in a coffee shop over a sweaty night at the bar anytime... most anytime.
And if I ever do have time to visit my favorite spots during the actual weekend, I get a little confused... Who are all of you, and what do you think you are doing in my spot?
Keep peace and keep creating,
Parker <3
