january 17 _ lighthearted

One of my favorite moments from yesterday was laughing with a friend. Neither of us actually knew what we were laughing about, which of course, made no difference and made us laugh a little more. Does this ever happen to you? It might start as a mumble, slight chuckle, or even a snort that draws an exchange of communicative looks and steady giggles from a nearby friend, but then, for one reason or another, rolls uncontrollably into a level of laughter fit to cause a scene.

I am thankful for these moments of goofiness. I think sometimes it is easy to miss the silliness of our lives. We get distracted by by the heaviness of work, finances, relationships, our political climate, the warming of the actual climate, etc., and we overlook opportunities to giggle or laugh—to release some of that heaviness. There needs to be a balance.

The word that comes to mind is "lighthearted." To me this means having a heart with the ability to recognize and respond to the heaviness in life, but also the ability to keep it at a healthy distance. I would encourage all of us to keep this word in mind. It might help us to better let things go, smile more, be kind, listen when we need to, and be silly when we need to as well. And of course it won't be easy. There are always going to be days where your heart feels heavy, but those are the days when a little laughter—maybe at nothing or even yourself—can make everything just a bit lighter.

Keep your heart light, and...

Keep peace and keep creating,
