Happy Valentine's Day! I hope you are celebrating ALL kinds of Love today—the friendship kind, the self kind, the pet kind, the romantic kind, the spiritual kind, etc.—and the journeys that Love take us on.
Here is one of my favorite love poems that I have written. I shared it on my instagram feed a while ago, but it is VALENTINE'S DAY, so I figured it was an acceptable option to share here today as well.

"cucumber salads"

so many writers tell love stories
that are just the beginning of love stories
sold as if they are complete
the chase, the catch, the kiss, the bliss
the end.
love happens after the love story
it exists in the sequels that were never made
because they would never sell
with scenes of couples
preparing cucumber salads for barbecues,
falling asleep on the city bus,
or exchanging i'm sorry's and i forgive you's
over and over and over again.
there is no set out line
no limit to plot twists
just an original story
that debuts each day
after two imperfect protagonists
first whisper
i love you.
